Haunted Hotels is a guide to reportedly haunted hotels, inns and lodges across the United States. It collects hotel ghost stories and legends, with the property, what guests are said to experience there and, where it is known, the documented history of the building.
How the stories are written
Documented history is kept separate from legend. Each entry covers where the hotel actually is, what the record says happened there, and what guests and staff are said to see or hear. The ghost stories are told as local folklore, not as proven fact. Where no record backs a story up, it is described as a legend or a rumor, and many of these tales have changed over the years. A haunted hotel is still a working business with guests and staff, so please be a considerate visitor: respect the privacy of other guests, stay out of guest rooms, staff areas and closed floors unless you are booked in or on a tour, follow the property’s rules, and check that a hotel or inn is still open and taking guests before you plan a trip, since properties change hands.
